What’s New and Revisits
New abstract floral paintings
These paintings came about with no plan. I wanted to play with my paint and let my whimsy style come through and didn’t think about what I was going to put down. I wanted to allow myself to let whatever wanted to come through, end up on the paper.
Both were created on 11x14 heavy mixed media paper (570gsm) - highly recommend for those artists struggling with space for canvases.
I’ve still been very inspired by revisiting old art and even my old routines of journalling and exercise… its been a whole thing! This is turning out to be a great retrograde season for me. Anyway, below is what I revisited and reworked last week.
Collage Play
I pulled out an old acrylic ink painting (left) that I abandoned and decided to collage over it. Since I’ve been toying with collaging as an art form for months, (mind you, I had collage papers that I made and bought that have just been lying around for months). SMH
Then to the right, an abandoned sketchbook spread, that I pre-painted with acrylic paint and a mark-making tool, I added painted collage papers and added NeoColor 2 to the mix.

Goals for next week
Next week one of my goals is to work with my alcohol markers. I have a set of Ohuhu markers that I’ve never used, as well as small sets of Prismacolor and Copic markers.
Why haven’t I used them? Well, when I tried for Inktober last year, the bleed-through of the ink really bothered me, so I set them aside because I didn’t know how to work around it. So here I am again, giving it a go. Will keep y’all updated on this… fingers crossed.
It is always my goal to draw daily. I’ve been slowing down on that but since I’m challenging myself to use my alcohol markers, I may have a drawing a day after all.
Drawing prompts and bonus process video
Bonus Timelapse of the above drawing!
I decided to film my process this time. It is sped up but now too much so you can see my process and strokes. Grab a cup of tea or coffee and settle in to watch a lovely video.

What I Read:
Two Substack newsletters that I read recently has taken up space in my mind… in a very good way!
And…
Both of these posts told similar stories of artists who realized that they are artists until laterin life. I see alot of that in the art communities on different platforms, people well into their 40s, 50s and 60s finally creating their art seriously because they were raised to believe that there is no money in art making.
I was one of those people. As an art lover for decades, I never thought that I could be an artist. It just seemed so removed from my life, and unaccessible. The truth was, I didn’t feel worthy. I didn’t think there was a chance I could be a good artist, “they’re special”, I’m not, I would think.
Today, I’m wondering, what took me so long to get here? I can’t imagine not drawing or painting now. It has become such a huge part of my life.
So, I thought that it would be a great idea to share these posts with other artists who may share similars stories… you are not alone. Generation X seems to have alot of artists LOL 😂
